Dawit Isaak Library

The Bound Books Project

Agency: BBDO Nordics

Description

With blatant book bans surging world over, the world's first library dedicated entirely to banned literature, decided to fight back. And we created something to help; a book that was Impossible to read and Impossible to ignore.

To mark Banned Books Week 2025, we created world’s first double-bound book for the Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö: a special unreadable edition of George Orwell’s 1984.

‍By sealing all the printed pages of one of the most influential works of literature as an act of protest, we wanted to create a universal symbol for the fight against censorship. We crafted the book to induce anxiety and anger first, followed by action – to speak out against censorship and seek out more forbidden literature.

As the first of many 'Bound books' to come, this edition was made available to be borrowed by 1,000+ libraries participating in Banned Books Week in Sweden as well as libraries across the world.

This professional campaign titled 'The Bound Books Project' was published in Sweden in October, 2025. It was created for the brand: Dawit Isaak Library, by ad agency: BBDO Nordics. This Design, Film, and Print media campaign is related to the Education and Public Interest industries and contains 5 media assets. It was submitted about 2 months ago.
