Description
Today, MilkPEP launches milkXP, a new free YouTube series that pairs popular creators with educators to make real-world topics more relevant and engaging for teens.
Developed in partnership with its agency of record, GALE, the series illustrates how classroom learning can help fuel real-world goals. For instance, the first semester explores financial literacy, one of the subjects teens connect most closely with their future goals.
In each milkXP episode, an educator teams up with a creator to explore a topic teens want to understand through the storytelling and pacing they expect and genuinely enjoy online. You can view episode one here.
Each episode is guided by the Milk Flow State Framework, a digital content scorecard developed with digital wellness expert Dr. Michael Rich and reviewed by education expert Dr. Gregory Barton. The framework is designed to help ensure that content is age-appropriate, participatory, and purposeful.
The strategy of the YouTube series is directly inspired by new research findings from the new Relevance Study Gap commissioned by Milk and conducted by The Harris Poll, showing that teens may disengage when what they are learning does not feel connected to their lives or futures.
55% of teens say what they learn in school does not feel relevant to what they need for future success, and 97% say they are less engaged when they cannot connect a lesson to their goals or interests.
69% of teens use YouTube several times a week or daily to learn something new, and 95% would watch long-form YouTube educational content connecting school subjects with real-world opportunities, careers, and goals.
Strategically, the content bridges classroom learning with a platform teens already use, connecting educators with creators to make education part of the content they already enjoy.
Milk also fits naturally into the program: 74% of teens say they reach for a snack or drink when it's time to focus on homework, and 94% say a nutritious breakfast or lunch makes it easier to concentrate. An eight-ounce serving of dairy milk delivers 13 essential nutrients — including protein, vitamin B12, iodine, and zinc — showing how milk can fuel their focus throughout the day.
The series premieres September 15 and features creator collaborations with Ben Azelart (4.7M), Lexi Rivera (8M), Harper Zilmer (1M), Angelo Bahu (1M), SeanDoesMagic (7.3M), and Markell Washington (1.3M).
The latest work in the partnership continues GALE’s innovative approach to tapping into the back-to-school season, with a recent satirical campaign featuring John Morgan of the personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan warning parents that whole milk’s healthy fats support kids’ brain development, making their brains more appetizing to zombies.
The series will be showcased on YouTube @milkXPofficial and run through the fall.
