To ensure that the issue of abuse and mistreatment of children in shelters was not forgotten by Panamanians, we created Esperanza, a candle with the dimensions and shape of an 8 year old girl, which was lit on September 1st and traveled through different parts of Panama City while it burned. As the candle melted down, it was a strong and emotional illustration of how a children's dreams fade when he or she is raped or abused. Esperanza was holding a teddy bear and next to it was a cardboard sign with a crayon that read: Don'tForgetAboutUsTheChildren.
