The end of summer may be approaching, but the year of Barbie is still going full throttle. Charli XCX has just released the video for “Speed Drive,” her single from Barbie: The Album, with a special guest star: the Google Android Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.
Shot in Los Angeles and co-directed by Charli with Ramez Silyan, the video features Charli racing a Barbie-pink corvette while singing her catchy lyrics, which have helped the track reach 70M global streams. In a seamless bit of brand integration, she stops to answer a call on her Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, which leads to a cheeky, video-call cameo from fellow Barbie: The Album artist Sam Smith.
To bring this brand integration to life, Google Android teamed up with Crown + Conquer, the trailblazing independent agency that helps brands take risks by interacting with culture in real life. Working with the brand, Crown + Conquer identified the Barbie partnership opportunity, and served as the brand liaison.
The agency also consulted with the brand and video production team on certain creative elements of the video, to help ensure that the merger of the video and the Samsung Galaxy Flip5 was organic, eye-catching and, of course, fun.
