India arrived at Destination Independence when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the tricolour at the Red Fort on 15th August, 1947. But how did we get there?
It took hundreds of years of struggle for India to attain independence. Debates, negotiations, movements and revolutions against the colonial British forces led to many lives martyred. But other than Gandhi, Nehru and Bose, how many of India’s freedom fighters do we know of?
So this Independence month, redBus decided to re-map India’s independence history for its citizens. Across India, there are many locations and places that played a key role in our country’s freedom struggle (e.g Kakori Railway Station, Sabarmati Ashram, Jhansi ka Qila etc.). This August, we brought these destinations back to the nation’s attention, via a Google Maps hack.
