Social media campaign for World environment day tagged - Plastic Suffocates
Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed by ocean plastic every year. For World environment day on June 5th, we wanted to raise awareness about the need for sustainable living in Nigeria which has been given little attention in the past.
Hobeei; a Nigerian Green-Tech Organization communicates regularly on environmental issues concerning recycling and sustainable living. In the bid to promote sustainable living in Nigeria, Pan African communications agency, Takeout Media was engaged as the creative partner to craft a message that highlights this issue.
Takeout Media wanted to cut through the noise and leave a memorable message. " In a country like Nigeria where the conversation about sustainable living has been given little attention, the challenge was identifying a way to make the message a priority for the populace, thereby amplifying the wake-up call." explains Elijah Affi, Creative Director. "Our approach involved crafting a social media campaign with vivid imagery of a model masked with a plastic bag used frequently in Nigeria, this created a parallel of the harm caused by plastic pollution to marine mammals and demonstrated the discomfort that comes with being unable to breathe and live hence leveraging the message; Plastic suffocates" adds Miraculous Nwaka, Associate Creative Director.
The issue of sustainable living is beginning to gain attention in Nigeria with more companies and people taking steps to recycle and Hobeei is contributing significantly to amplifying the narrative of the need for a more sustainable Nigeria.
