A multi story projection illuminated the iconic Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, Newcastle
Description
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has launched a huge multi-story projection on the side of Newscastle’s iconic Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to mark the launch of its new ‘It Takes Planners & You’ Campaign, raising awareness of the critical role of public participation in town planning.
The large-scale projection transformed the Baltic’s façade into a storytelling canvas - celebrating the building’s own evolution from industrial site to cultural landmark as a metaphor for the power of visionary planning.
The activation marks the start of RTPI’s nationwide integrated campaign, which aims to reframe planning as a force for good - inspiring people to engage in shaping their local areas. A real-time public vote, projected live onto the building, invited viewers to scan a QR code and choose which local community should be spotlighted next in the campaign.
Built around fresh YouGov insight, the campaign highlights a major gap between how people feel about where they live and how involved they are in shaping it, with 1 in 3 (31%) say their area is in decline, but less than 7% actively taking action to influence its future.
