“Sorry, no cash.” That’s the excuse Hinz&Kunzt vendors hear all too often. As fewer people carry cash, sales drop dramatically. To stop losing revenue, Hinz&Kunzt needed a payment system that works without a device or bank account – things most homeless vendors simply don’t have. So we created Hinz&Pay, the first inclusive payment system with street credibility. A simple QR code turns sales badges into a payment tool. Just scan, pay and support – completely transparently on the customer’s phone. For the launch, the vendors became the faces of a citywide OOH, DOOH and social campaign. The result: over 12,000 transactions in the first weeks and a lot of buzz among Hamburg residents, in the press and on social media. Hinz&Pay is not a technical but a social innovation. It changed payment behaviour, generated new customers, and even inspired other street papers, which now want to adopt the open-source system.
