After 28 years, Austria finally qualified for the FIFA World Cup again! The whole country celebrated and cheered on our team with the typical Austrian chant used to support the national team: “Gemma, Burschen!”, which means “Let’s go, boys!”
But then came the match against Spain, the moment no one wanted to see. Austria was knocked out of the tournament. We responded by replacing the message on our billboards. “Gemma, Burschen!” became “Gemma Mäcci!”, a popular Austrian phrase meaning “Let’s go to McDonald’s!” At the same time, we thanked the boys for their dedication and effort throughout the tournament.
