DRIVEN BY CURIOSITY AND PASSION, YOUNG MONGOLIAN ENGINEERS ARE GROWING ACROSS THE ENDLESS STEPPE.
Description
Mongolia is a country defined by distance. Nomadic families live scattered across deserts, mountains, and endless grasslands, where access to modern education has never been equal. For many children growing up in remote provinces, learning robotics, coding, or engineering once felt impossibly far away. The dreams existed. What was missing was access.
In 2022, Unitel Group decided to change that.
The question was simple yet complex: how could a telecommunications brand bring advanced technology education to one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, without asking children to leave their homes, their culture, or their identity behind?
That belief became Unitel STEAM HUB. Instead of bringing children to the city, Unitel brought STEAM education to where children live. Across all 21 provinces and Ulaanbaatar’s Nalaikh District, learning hubs were embedded directly into local communities, offering hands-on education in coding, robotics, drones, and creative problem-solving.
Soon, something remarkable began to happen. Children from herder families on the steppe started programming drones. Classrooms by mountain lakes filled with students building robots and writing their first lines of code. Technology stopped feeling distant and started feeling personal, practical, and possible.
Children who once watched drones in the sky were now flying them themselves, sometimes even using self-coded drones to herd livestock. Confidence grew alongside skills, and learning became a shared experience rooted in collaboration and curiosity.
The impact quickly became visible. Thousands of students joined the program, while tens of thousands more were reached through educational activities across the country.
In 2025, Unitel STEAM HUB students carried Mongolia’s flag to the Enjoy AI 2025 international competition, standing alongside participants from 61 countries and returning home with gold, silver, and bronze medals. Their success delivered a powerful message: geography does not define potential.
Today, Unitel STEAM HUB stands as more than an education initiative. It is a long-term investment in Mongolia’s future, nurturing a new generation of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers who remain deeply connected to their culture while confidently engaging with the digital world.
Unitel Group set out to spotlight the brilliance of Mongolia’s young innovators across deserts, mountains, and grasslands, sharing a message of belief and possibility through a short video and a series of nomadic stories — celebrating dreams that rise from the steppe to the skies.
