Little fire
Little Smoke
Little Animals
Description
2024 is a year to forget, as it marked the worst environmental catastrophe in Bolivia. More than 12.6 million hectares of forest and Amazon were consumed by fire, devastating protected areas, biodiversity, and indigenous territories. And it wasn’t just that. A dense layer of smoke covered several cities across the country, with Santa Cruz de la Sierra being the most affected, threatening public health with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 261 micrograms per cubic meter.
Equally shocking is the data from biologist Vincent Vos, a member of the UAB, who estimates that over 10 million animals died in the wildfires. Mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles suffered from the state’s neglect.
Nómadas is a digital magazine focused on impactful journalism, exposing environmental and human rights issues in the country. Together with them, we launched this campaign that highlights the shortsightedness of the authorities, who minimized the shocking figures.
