Description

CONTEXT

Every year, wildfires destroy millions of hectares of forest around the world.
But even after the flames disappear, the damage remains.

The resulting ash covers the ground, disrupts ecosystems and can sometimes slow down natural regeneration.

Meanwhile, less than 15% of burned forests are ever restored due to the lack of funding, which depends almost exclusively on public administration.

IDEA

EXPLORAMAS, a company specialised in creating purpose-driven experiences, challenged us to bring life back to those forests.

That’s how ASHES TO LIFE was born: a high-end ecological cosmetics brand created from the ashes of burned forests.

10% of profits are allocated to ecosystem recovery, allowing every product sold to directly contribute to regenerating the forest it comes from.

But the innovation was never just the product.
The real idea was to redesign the role of consumption itself: turning every purchase into a direct mechanism for ecological restoration.

A system where ash becomes a resource, the product becomes funding, and funding becomes regeneration.

Not a brand with a purpose.
A purpose transformed into a brand.

EXECUTION

The entire project was designed around the logic of regeneration.

Ash is transformed into cosmetic products through a controlled production process.

The product design takes direct inspiration from scorched landscapes:
charred textures, monochromatic palettes and minimalist forms that reflect the tension between destruction and recovery.

Even the packaging system was designed to minimise environmental impact:
single-ink printing, certified ecological ingredients, vegan formulas and responsible production processes.

The system connects three stages in one continuous cycle:
Ash collection (waste) → Product creation (and subsequent sales) → Forest restoration (through the economy generated).

IMPACT

ASHES TO LIFE restored its first forest in Málaga, Spain.

What began as a local initiative evolved into a scalable and replicable regenerative model capable of being adopted in territories affected by wildfires anywhere in the world.

The project was invited to the Climate Summit as an example of sustainable innovation and recognised by the Spanish Government as one of the national initiatives already taking action against climate change.

But the greatest impact was changing the logic of regeneration itself.

ASHES TO LIFE does not just restore forests.
It redefines how design can help regenerate the planet.
