Description
Deforestation in Nigeria has become a critical environmental issue, driven by agricultural expansion, logging, and urban development. The country has one of the highest rates of deforestation globally, with an estimated annual loss of about 3.5% of its forest cover.
This rapid depletion of forests is exacerbating climate change impacts, threatening biodiversity, as well as contributing to soil erosion and desertification.
Despite feeling its direct impact, we observed that ignorance has been playing a major part in this issue in the country. Many Nigerians couldn’t see how their actions of indiscriminate tree felling were linked to desertification, drought, flooding and even an increase in the risk of extreme conditions like Landslides and Earthquakes in their immediate environment.
So, on World Rainforest Day, we want to visually highlight the severe consequences of deforestation by transforming cross-sections of felled trees into striking images representing the negative impacts such as desertification, flooding, drought, and landslides. Our campaign was built around the message of “EVERY TREE CUTDOWN IS A POTENTIAL DISASTER”.
This professional campaign titled 'World Rainforest Day' was published in Nigeria in June, 2024. It was created for the brand: Nigerian Conservation Foundation, by ad agency: X3M Ideas.
