The Great Duane Campaign demonstrates how a strategically aligned celebrity partnership can move beyond awareness to drive cultural relevance, brand salience, and meaningful engagement in a highly competitive FMCG category.

With “More Protein for Active Dogs” already central to Optimizor’s proposition, the brand partnered with Springbok rugby legend Duane Vermeulen, a nationally respected symbol of strength, discipline, and performance, to credibly connect elite human performance with canine vitality. Positioned as the ultimate G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time), Duane became a natural extension of Optimizor’s performance-led promise rather than a traditional celebrity endorsement.

Rather than using celebrity purely for reach, Duane was embedded into the brand narrative through humour, gamification, and culturally relevant storytelling, including real-time, creator-style content aligned to South Africa’s rugby calendar. Delivered across TV, digital, social, print, owned platforms, and experiential activations, the campaign reignited attention for Optimizor while reinforcing its functional protein benefit in an engaging, locally resonant way.

During the Springbok matches at the end of 2025, Duane collaborated with rugby content creator Robbie Gillet to produce short-form social videos reacting to upcoming fixtures, sharing his perspective on team performance, and debating who the “G.O.A.T” of each game was.

These moments leveraged Duane’s authority as a former Springbok legend and positioned him as an active commentator within rugby culture, naturally reinforcing Optimizor’s G.O.A.T performance narrative in a way that felt timely, unscripted, and culturally embedded rather than promotional.
