Slovakia is a neighboring country to Ukraine, and a former satellite of the Soviet Union. But despite having a terrible 40-year experience with Russian oppression, we are an easy target for Russian propaganda. Why? Because we have always loved Russian fairy tales. The most popular one is “Frosty”, a Russian classic from 1964 that still dominates Slovak TV ratings every Christmas season. Nastenka, the main character, was dubbed by a 15-year old Slovak actress. She was silent for 60 years, but we have found her to make her raise her voice again: don't believe Russian fairy tales.
The campaign was adopted by official Slovak institutions, celebrities, influencers, journalists and even members of the European Parliament both from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The campaign was even covered by the Slovak national television. Up to this day, Nastenka remains the only Slovak campaign rargeted against Russian propaganda.
