NÜTRL

Smile Üp

Agency: GUT Singapore

Description

To bring a global brand into South Korea, GUT Singapore didn't import a campaign, but built an entire brand world using a mark sitting inside NÜTRL's name all along.

The idea started with an untapped detail: the umlaut (Ü) in NÜTRL’s name. Reinterpreted as a smile, GUT Singapore transformed a simple typographic mark into NÜTRL’s defining visual signature, giving the global brand a warm, recognizable identity as it introduced itself to Korean consumers.

That smile scaled into NÜTRL’s brand platform for Korea, Smile Üp. More than a campaign line, it expressed the brand’s mission in the market: to bring a little lightness and a little more reason to smile to Koreans.

This came to life through an original music video featuring S.COUPS and MINGYU, where the artists don’t just endorse NÜTRL from the outside, but become part of the brand universe itself. By reimagining their hit single “For you” as “For Ü”, the music video introduces NÜTRL through music, entertainment and a vibrant visual universe inspired by the drink’s light and refreshing formulation and personality.

“For Ü” expands NÜTRL’s identity into a world filled with playful visual cues and recognizable Korean cultural references, giving the brand a distinctly Korean expression without losing the identity that travels with it globally. The result gives fans multiple ways to discover NÜTRL, combining functional product storytelling with entertainment people would choose to watch and share.

The music video sits at the heart of a social-first play, supported by out-of-home and on-ground activations, helping establish NÜTRL in one of Korea's fastest-growing and most competitive ready-to-drink categories.

Alongside the campaign, GUT Singapore led the redesign of NÜTRL's packaging for the Korean market, working with GUT Design to create a cohesive identity across every touchpoint.

“Korea is one of the most exciting and competitive ready-to-drink markets in the world, and we wanted to enter with impact. There was no better way to do that than collaborating with artists who genuinely shape the culture. Working with S.COUPS and MINGYU gave NÜTRL a level of cultural credibility and energy few launches ever get, positioning the brand right where music and culture meet.” said Alex Lambrecht, Marketing Vice President at Anheuser-Busch InBev.

"This launch was about much more than introducing a new drink," said Carlos Camacho, Chief Creative Officer at GUT Singapore. "The smile hidden in NÜTRL's own name gave us a way in, and music let us build a world people would choose to spend time in, rather than an ad they'd skip. Everything, down to turning “For you” into “For Ü”, came from that one idea."

The campaign marks another collaboration between GUT Singapore and leading Korean entertainment IPs and personalities, with past collaborations including Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars 2, Napoli Matfia, Moon Sang Hoon and more. Rather than announcing NÜTRL’s arrival with a conventional launch, the agency has applied its pop-culture-first instinct for a market entry, building a world fans across South Korea, Asia and beyond will choose to step into.
