Saudi Arabia's Visual Archive

Agency: Takkah

Description

Saudi Founding Day is not just a national occasion; it is a moment of reflection on a story that began three centuries ago and continues to shape the Kingdom today. For ZATCA, participating in this moment meant more than marking a date. It meant standing within a legacy that connects past foundations to present responsibility and future progress.

From the beginning, our intention was clear: we did not want to produce another traditional commemorative film. Founding Day content often leans on familiar imagery and predictable visual storytelling. While those approaches carry value, we saw an opportunity to move beyond repetition and create something immersive, something that would feel monumental rather than symbolic.

Our objective was to transform the celebration from something people watch into something they experience.

The core idea was simple but ambitious — to turn the Kingdom itself into a living visual archive. Instead of recreating history on controlled sets or limiting it to screens, we projected key historical visuals and symbolic moments directly onto real architectural landmarks. Buildings became canvases. Skylines became storytellers. The city itself carried the narrative.

This approach allowed us to bridge three dimensions at once: history, space, and scale. The projections were not decorative; they were intentional and carefully mapped to interact with the architecture. Every surface was chosen to amplify the meaning of the visuals placed upon it. The result was a celebration that felt physically embedded in the environment — not separate from it.

Cinematically, the hero film captured the transformation of space into story. Through controlled lighting, aerial perspectives, and grounded human reactions, we ensured the spectacle felt powerful but never disconnected from emotion. The tone remained respectful and dignified, aligning with both the weight of Founding Day and ZATCA’s institutional presence.

Ultimately, this project aimed to achieve three things:
To honor the depth of Saudi history.
To present ZATCA as a modern authority rooted in legacy.
And to create a national moment that felt new, bold, and unforgettable.
