The BETWAY SA20 TVC will blend the real world of South African cricket with moments of surreal magic, drawing inspiration from Apple’s HomePod ad directed by Spike Jonze. In that ad, reality bends and shifts, creating an immersive, dreamlike environment that still feels grounded and connected to the real world. We’ll take that same approach here, blending in-camera effects and VFX to create a cube that responds to the players and fans, subtly shifting its environment while maintaining the authenticity of their experiences.
We’ll start with a grounded, documentary-style feel. The opening scenes in the hangar will feel real, unscripted, and candid, capturing the players in a relaxed, natural setting. Once they approach and enter the cube, we’ll seamlessly introduce moments of magical realism. The cube will subtly expand and contract, its walls reacting to the players with dynamic projections of cricket moments and fan energy, much like the expanding and stretching visuals in the Apple commercial.
The use of an in-cube diary cam will further ground these magical moments, keeping the players’ interactions honest and unfiltered. The result will be a journey that merges reality with magic without losing the emotional connection to the game, allowing the audience to feel like they’re part of the experience—just as Jonze’s ad made viewers feel transported into a space where reality bends but still feels deeply personal.
