LITTLE BIG ENGINE LAUNCHES HUMOROUS CAMPAIGN TO SHOWCASE THE WISE CHEQUING ACCOUNT IN CANADA
Consumer-Focused Creative Explains Product Benefits To All Canadians With International and Domestic Financial Needs

Little Big Engine, the independent creative, production and branding agency, is breaking a humorous and user-focused campaign for Wise, the global technology company building the best way to move and manage the world’s money, to showcase the Wise Chequing Account across the Canadian market.

The high-profile campaign, “The Smartest Thing You Can Do Right Now,” launched October 15 and runs through mid-December across major Canadian media, including streaming, CTV, premium cable networks, social media and online content platforms. The work is designed to demonstrate how Wise’s newly launched Chequing Account helps Canadians manage their domestic and international money needs all in one place, whether at home or abroad.

The campaign is centered around three :30 videos that show how both immigrants and visitors to Canada can get paid in CAD and other currencies, send money domestically and cross-border, and spend money with the Wise Card, all within their Wise account.

In “Cobra Chicken”, a sightseer has a terrifying encounter with an aggressive Canadian goose. In “Bump!”, Raj, who just moved to Canada from India, struggles carrying his coffee while wearing ice skates and bumps into a huge hockey player. The tense moment breaks when both men trade apologies. In “Puffy Coat,” April, who is spending her first winter in Canada after moving from the Philippines, attempts to leave her new home during a snowstorm, dressed clumsily in an enormously puffy ski parka. She becomes stuck in her front door. The payoff in all three spots comes when each one takes a moment and signs up for Wise Smart Chequing--the smartest thing they could do right now.

“This is a big moment for Wise as we just launched our Chequing Account in Canada supporting our Canadian customers to seamlessly manage their money both overseas and at home,” said Matt White, Head of Strategy and Planning, Wise. “We have extended the ‘Be Smart. Get Wise’ creative platform to speak directly to newcomers to Canada, taking a fun spin on the quirks they might stumble upon as they get up to speed on Canadian culture—the brutally cold winters, overly apologetic hockey players or incredibly angry geese.”

“Wise challenged us to connect with the Canadian audience in ways that felt authentic,” said Patrick Maravilla, Co-Chief Creative Officer, Little Big Engine. “We found truths that every Canadian would recognize and took them to a ridiculous place. Whether it’s a woman buying a puffy coat for the winter or a hockey player arguing over who is more polite or even showing their national bird attacking a guy in the park—this campaign will give our friends up north a good laugh. Showing them the benefits of the Wise Chequing Account will elevate the campaign from entertaining to a strong brand positioning that will help Wise meet its business goals.”

The campaign targets newcomers in Canada and long-term Canadian residents with financial ties to other countries. Both market segments juggle multiple providers to manage their money. But the Wise Chequing Account helps serve their many and changing financial needs, which is the strategic communications goal of the work.

Wise has spent over 15 years helping consumers and businesses send and receive money globally in a transparent, fast, affordable and convenient way. The brand and Little Big Engine sought to use Wise’s expertise to dramatize the humorous nuances that accompany international money movement. The campaign also aligns with the global creative platform, “Be Smart. Get Wise.”

"We launched ‘Be Smart. Get Wise’ last year to showcase how Wise is the smartest choice for those looking to move and manage money internationally,” said Scott Viohl, US & Canada Marketing Lead, Wise. “This platform can grow and flex with our global product offerings and is a strong vehicle to show how Wise simplifies our customers’ financial lives and delivers even more benefits. This is particularly true for Canadians who can now sign up for our Chequing Account.”

Media platforms for the work (three :30 videos and 15 :15 versions) include connected TV, Meta, YouTube, Reddit and TikTok. Canadian networks, cable, streaming, online and social media channels include Amazon Prime, DAZN, Sportsnet+, ABS-CBN, Willow, Fubo, YuppTV, Netflix, Pluto, Roku, Tubi, Crave, Plex, Haystack, Meta and YouTube.

This is the second major campaign the agency has produced for Wise since winning the business on a project basis. Little Big Engine is a branding, creative and production agency that delivers creative work that clients can hold accountable. Clients include global brands such as Hooked on Phonics, Tovala, ZipRecruiter and Edible Arrangements and challenger brands such as Zagg, Skyscanner, Purple mattress, Chirp, Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter, Pura and Kizik.
