Description
The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) has launched "Fragile Ocean", a powerful new campaign for Threatened Species Day that brings the vulnerability of Australia’s marine life into the heart of its cities. Created with production company Collider, the short film blends striking visuals of water-formed marine animals moving through urban landscapes with the haunting soundtrack *Final Rescue Attempt* by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, and narration from *Bluey* voice actor Melanie Zanetti. The campaign aims to remind Australians—76% of whom live in cities—that even from streets of concrete and glass, they remain deeply connected to the ocean.
Described by AMCS Director of Communications Imogen Scott as a message of “wonder and urgency,” the campaign highlights the devastating impacts of climate change, including coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo, and marine heatwaves in South Australia. Yet it also offers hope, calling on Australians to support stronger climate and nature laws currently under review by the Albanese Government. By signing petitions and raising their voices, Scott says, people can help secure the protections marine ecosystems urgently need. *Fragile Ocean* not only seeks to inspire action but also marks a significant step in AMCS’s mission to rally a national movement for ocean health—emphasising that protecting marine life is inseparable from protecting ourselves.
