Generation Wild, a movement from Great Outdoors Colorado that works to connect kids with the outdoors, has some competition. Kids are becoming increasingly more indoorsy. For the second year in a row, with the help of Sukle, Generation Wild is launching a campaign that seeds an easy outdoor activity for families. Literally. Wilderflowers™ aims to get kids outside by distributing more than 120,000 free wildflower seed packets across the state. That’s over 151 million seeds.
This year’s campaign kicks off with an endearing film bringing Wilderflowers™ to life. Mischievous flower puppets encourage a screen-distracted child to get outside to play. Led by Sukle, the film was brought to life in partnership with Jelly, a creative production company, and a talented team of artists and puppeteers, some of whom have worked on the much-loved Muppets and supported Wes Anderson’s films. The film was directed by Matte Cooper, whose directing & animating work for IKEA, Adidas, Ben & Jerry’s, Chipotle and others has made him a go-to for bespoke, highly crafted animation. As a father himself, he is passionately aligned with Generation Wild’s mission, and was determined to create something tactile, curious, and engaging in a way that awakens a sense of awe and wonderment within. The piece intentionally embraces an aesthetic that contrasts with the hyper-saturated world of screens that often keep kids inside.
The work directs families to GenerationWild.com/Wilderflowers where they can find locations to pick up free seeds, an activity that connects kids to nature and helps improve habitats for the state’s pollinators.
