Description
Afrikaans punk rock band, Van Coke Kartel launched a digital comic book, entitled “Wie’s Bang?” - a first for any South African band. “Wie’s Bang?” was part of the launch campaign of Van Coke Kartel’s forthcoming album, and also acted as a promotional device to grow the band’s fan base: most of whom are young Afrikaans South Africans, in a variety of LSM levels, aged between 16-35; who are usually comic book fans as well as hard-rock lovers.
Using a combination of highly regarded illustrators and Afrikaans writers, we created a series of 4 electronic comic-books that were each unique. Each of the four books had a completely different look and feel, as the story-line advanced from one to the next.
That was only part of the tale. Besides the electronic comic books, there were also: printed comic books, a TV ad, a Twitter campaign, a Facebook campaign, a series of promotions on SA’s biggest Blogsite, Watkykjy; a host of other social media channels; plus, appearances on various websites (Eg Bizcommunity, News24, Design Indaba’s website, between 10 and 5, Rolling Stone magazine (online and print)) and a live stunt by the band on the Afrikaans TV channel, MK; lastly a music video for the band’s hit single - ‘Vir Almal’. What’s more the campaign received a large amount of free PR from a wide variety of online news channels.
This professional campaign titled 'Wie's Bang' was published in South Africa in June, 2011. It was created for the brand: Van Coke Kartel, by ad agency: Dojo115. This Digital medium campaign is related to the Recreation, Leisure industry and contains 1 media asset. It was submitted about 11 years ago.
