Vehicle of Hope

Description

2026 Cannes Lions Grand Prix Winner

Caritas has unveiled the *Vehicle of Hope*, transforming the former Popemobile into a mobile pediatric clinic that will deliver essential healthcare to children in Gaza living in areas where medical services have become inaccessible. The initiative, approved by Pope Francis before his death and formally acknowledged by Pope Leo XIV, repurposes the vehicle as both a practical humanitarian resource and a symbol of compassion for children affected by conflict.

Originally built by Mitsubishi, the vehicle has been extensively rebuilt to operate in challenging conditions. Reinforced for damaged roads and fitted with upgraded suspension, medical equipment and vaccine-grade refrigeration, the clinic is equipped to provide emergency pediatric treatment, trauma stabilization, post-amputation care and the safe transport of essential medicines. Its independent power system allows medical teams to continue operating for several hours in areas without reliable electricity.

The *Vehicle of Hope* will support Caritas Jerusalem’s existing healthcare network by operating alongside the Gaza Mobile Health Initiative and more than ten mobile clinics already serving displaced communities. With hospitals severely damaged and healthcare access dramatically reduced, the mobile clinic aims to bring lifesaving treatment directly to children and families while reinforcing Caritas’ long-standing humanitarian work in Gaza during one of the region’s most critical periods.
