Most people now rely on online and social media to learn about and manage their health, especially younger audiences, with 75% of 18–34-year-olds turning to these platforms. Yet women’s health content is routinely treated as “adult content,” leading to blocked ads, banned hashtags, and removed posts, while comparable men’s health content remains unaffected. This invisible algorithmic censorship results in shadowbanning, self-censorship, and reinforces stigma around women’s bodies. CensHERship Revealed shows that 95% of women’s health creators have experienced censorship, and over half have been forced to change their language or imagery simply to stay visible. Realistic depictions of the human nude are often censored on platforms for being considered explicit, but artworks with clear educational or artistic value and no sexual intent are generally exempt from such censorship. UncensHERship Gem that was created through a collaboration between health advocacy group CensHERship and Gemini provides a service that allows individual creators and women’s sexual health related brands to freely share relevant information with their target audiences on online platforms. It uses selected nude artworks instead of real human body photos , thereby avoiding censorship. Also it provides users with contents optimized to avoid censorship based on the accumulated censorship experiences faced by brands and individuals related to women’s sexual health products.
