BBDO SHOCKS PORTUGAL WITH BIOCHIPS FOR COUPLES
The Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), a national non-profit organization, was worried because Gen-Z couples use their smartphones for abusive control.
With that in mind, BBDO Portugal created a fake brand and a fake product: The RelationChip, two microchips for couples to implant in one another and monitor each other through a phone app.
One week before Valentine’s Day, influencers introduced the "RelationChip" to their communities and were the first to criticize it and amplify this negative feeling. Things blew off. People were shocked.
Three days later came the revelation and APAV stated its true intentions: to fuel the discussion on abuse and confront young couples with their own controlling behavior. Many were outraged over a physical chip — yet, in reality, they exert the exact same control over others through their smartphones.
The goal was overachieved: the campaign opened an urgent discussion, established digital control as a form of violence, and left a powerful statement: that young couples need to change, or, as we say, need to "change the chip".
This professional campaign titled 'The RelationChip' was published in Portugal in February, 2026. It was created for the brand: The Portuguese Association for Victim Support, by ad agency: BBDO. This Film and Integrated media campaign is related to the Public Interest industry and contains 4 media assets. It was submitted 21 minutes ago.
