Today, Cash App announced Timothée Chalamet as the platform’s newest collaborator, marking the actor’s first-ever partnership with a financial services platform.

As part of this collaboration, Cash App launched a film-inspired commercial spot starring the award-winning actor, marking his first film for a financial platform, where he collaborated with Cash App on the creative, from ideating the concept to drafting the script. This announcement follows in the footsteps of Cash App’s legacy of partnering with the entertainment industry’s leading creative visionaries, including Ramy Yousef, pgLang x Doechii, Jackson Tisi x Shaboozey, and more!

Previous Chalamet collaborators Aidan Zamiri (known for his show-stopping music videos with Charli XCX “360”) and Elijah Bynum (who directed and wrote 2017’s Hot Summer Nights, starring Timothée) were enlisted to direct and write the advertisement.

The spot offers a glimpse into differing intergenerational views around money, especially amongst families, with Chalamet unwittingly bridging the divide between a father and son.

Where to watch: In case you’ve seen on social…The commercial spot is now in movie theaters across the United States, airing before the summer blockbuster hit Superman, and will also appear ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Cash App did this to drive organic buzz and discovery amongst millions of movie-goers (Gen-Z and millennials, teens and families) and intentionally stoke interest and curiosity.

Driving fandom, the Cash App way: Over the weekend, Cash App engaged directly with Timothée fans on social media, surprising select individuals with $25 to see a movie—giving them the opportunity to catch the commercial spot in theaters.
