Cash App

Communities

Agency: Even/Odd

Description

Building on the success of its first “Cash App Communities” series – which has earned millions of views across YouTube and Instagram – Cash App announces its latest round of short films, once again directed by Even/Odd Founder Mohammad Gorjestani. Across a trio of stories, the films not only spotlight the invisible connections that we create every day with our family, friends, coworkers, customers, and strangers, but also demonstrate the important role that Cash App plays in strengthening these connections and communities.

Once again, the films profile real Cash App users who embody the campaign’s ethos of community while also underscoring how their new tools can help families, teenagers and orgs plan their budgets. “We chose great stories, with worlds and people that make you lean in a little closer when you hear about them,” explains Gorjestani. “These are stories that can’t be written because they feel so true to life.”

One film follows 14-year-old Bella, who spends summer afternoons with her friends at Texas’s Kemah boardwalk on the Galveston Bay. Once she’s completed her chores, her mom drops her off after loading her allowance onto a Cash App debit card, granting Bella a level of freedom while still allowing Melina to supervise her daughter’s spending and impart a sense of financial literacy.

Shot on Super 16mm film in both color and black + white, another film enters a rehearsal at New Orleans’s OperaCréole – an opera company focused on the work of classical and operatic composers of African descent. Founder Givonna Joseph leads the group in warmups while also musing on the deep, influential, and forgotten history of Black Opera music in the American South. At the end, Givonna pays her performers on Cash App, illustrating its role as vital connective financial tissue for cultural institutions.

The final story, “Teens on the Green”, invites us into the world of teenage friends spending the day on a golf course in Florida. The piece showcases the contagious mixture of camaraderie, boredom, ribbing and joy of an endless summer day spent outside with friends. At the end, they each contribute to their lunch bill using Cash App.
All three films, which were developed in partnership with creative studio and production company" Even/Odd, will air across the vast majority of premium linear TV channels as well as in national cinema before holiday blockbusters such as Wicked: For Good, Avatar: Fire and Ash and Marty Supreme. Shorter cutdowns will also be seen across additional social and streaming channels such as YouTube and Twitch.
