Textiles from the Future

A campaign giving forgotten clothes a voice through Vinted messages.

The clothing industry accounts for more than 60% of textile production, however only 1% of textile waste is returned to the system as clothing. Despite the presence of thousands of MOHU (Hungarian waste management company) textile waste collection containers in Hungary, most people still throw away clothes that are no longer wearable. This is not only harmful to the environment, but it also robs the garments of the chance to be recycled.
Vinted is currently the number one platform for buying and selling secondhand clothes, making it the perfect place to start the conversation.
Many items listed there have been sitting unsold for years, often in poor condition, likely headed for the trash.
So, we reached out to sellers of these garments with personalised messages from the future, written in the name of their clothes, already living a better life as recycled textiles.
Many well-known influencers are also Vinted enthusiasts, so we reached out to them as well in DM’s sent by their garments. In response they created TikTok and Instagram videos, sharing stories about their favorite pieces of clothing that had seen better days, and how they gave them a new life by taking them to textile recycling containers.
