3.4 million Filipinos suffer from scoliosis. Most don’t detect it until their spine is too curved and expensive to correct.

Early detection is crucial. To aid this, Scoliosis Philippines launched Scoliosis #StripesFitCheck, an awareness campaign that uses striped shirts to spot subtle body misalignments—potential signs of scoliosis.

The striped shirt functions like an on-body postural grid, a tool orthopedic spine doctors use to assess patients if their back, shoulders, hips and ribs are level. With the striped shirt as a tool, Filipinos can check themselves for any indication that they might need to seek official medical diagnosis.

The campaign started when Miss Universe 2018 did the #StripesFitCheck, revealing her scoliosis for the first time.

Mcdonald’s striped icon, Hamburglar, joined the cause. Thousands of Filipinos took their lead and followed suit. The national government showed support by initiating a National Stripes Day, encouraging medical practitioners nationwide to join the cause.
