Description

Panasonic’s ultra fine tungsten wire is a new metallic fiber that is incredibly fine, flexible, and strong. Our creative brief aims to raise awareness among industry engineers of its innovative potential and encourage its application in manufacturing. We focused on the insight that for engineers, the most superior and functional fiber in the world is considered to be spider silk. Therefore, we determined to perfectly recreate a spider web—assumed to be only made possible with spider silk—using ultra fine tungsten wire, demonstrating its exceptional qualities on par with spider silk. To recreate a spider web as close to the real thing as possible, we enlisted a knit artist. After extensive trial and error, a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted spider web was completed and displayed at our showroom. Frequently visited by engineers, the web successfully captured their attention. As a result, two new products utilizing ultra fine tungsten wire were developed.
