Gerald, the eighth of eleven siblings, encouraged his family to evacuate their home in the small village of Tacloban and seek refuge in a nearby school, where they sheltered as the typhoon destroyed the area around them. Gerald’s family’s fishing boat – their means of earning income at the time – was lost in the disaster yet despite this Gerald still courageously continues to help his family and local community by whatever small means possible.
