To launch Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, NVE created a first-of-its-kind immersive water attraction that shattered the boundary between content and reality. We transformed one of Los Angeles’ most iconic intersections into a "Sea of Monsters" experience, erupting with real water, fog, and lightning effects. A touch-responsive photo moment completed the multi-sensory spectacle, immersing fans in the show's world.
Challenge:
After a two-year wait since season one, to promote season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney needed to thrill the fandom and generate press-worthy cultural buzz in a way that went beyond passive advertising. NVE was tasked with concepting and creating a never-before-seen immersive activation to match the mythic scale of Percy Jackson – the fantastical story of a 13-year-old modern demigod.
Solution:
We drew fans in with a first-of-its-kind immersive water attraction that brought the “Sea of Monsters” to life and transformed the streets of Hollywood into an immersive splash zone.
The installation featured the tentacle of a giant sea-monster (a new character debuting this season), that appeared to burst forth from the screen, unleashing the Sea of Monsters across Los Angeles with a dramatic “tidal wave” of real water visible from blocks away. Through multi-sensory and phygital engineering – fusing physical build, large-scale environmental effects, digital integration, and disruptive experiential storytelling– we created a unified attraction that truly brought the world of Percy Jackson to life.
The attraction raised the bar for franchise world-building IRL, translating Season 2’s Sea of Monsters storyline into a moment that fans and passersby could feel, hear, and witness up close with flowing water, mist bursts, and fountain effects synced to the new trailer.
