Description
Following the aftermath of Hurricane OTIS in Acapulco, Guerrero, Reinserta swiftly moved to provide support to children and adolescents (NNyA) in the affected area.
In March, a poignant short film created by Grey Mexico and Oriental Films was unveiled at Sierra Gorda 495. This emotional narrative depicts the story of two sisters who initially fear the powerful force of a "Hurricane," which ultimately reveals itself as their aggressor. Directed by Alex Olten and Iris Valles "Garra," with cinematography by Pedro Luque, the film has been lauded for its impeccable craftsmanship and heartbreaking performances. Pedro Luque, recently nominated for an Oscar for his work in the film “Society of the Snow,” contributed to the cinematography.
"To truly comprehend the suffering endured by victims of childhood sexual violence, we must empathize and feel their pain as our own. That's the essence of what we aim to achieve with 'Hurricane,'" explains Saskia Niño De Rivera, Co-Founder and spokesperson for Reinserta.org.
The funds raised through this campaign will be directed towards the reconstruction of the shelter impacted by the hurricane. Reconstruction efforts began on March 16, with over 100 children residing in the facility. Additionally, the funds will support therapy focused on psychotrauma and mental health for the affected children.
"It's a powerful yet straightforward concept that we wanted to convey through film, aiming to generate tension and raise awareness among everyone, not just Mexicans who experienced the impact of Hurricane Otis, but also those who wish to contribute to this noble cause and Reinserta's programs," explains Alexis Ospina, Chief Creative Officer of Grey Mexico.
Statistics reveal alarming rates of violence against girls and adolescents in Guerrero, with Mexico leading in child sexual abuse. Within the shelter, children and adolescents who have experienced various forms of violence, including sexual abuse, child trafficking, abandonment, or parental loss, are particularly vulnerable, especially during natural disasters like Hurricane Otis.
At Reinserta, the commitment remains steadfast in creating a safe and violence-free environment for children and adolescents. The organization invites others to join in the effort to rebuild the future for survivors of violence, ensuring they can once again experience the Acapulco they deserve.
