Description
Finland Launches a 100-Year Welfare Study
Two weeks ago, Finland was once again named the happiest country in the world — for the ninth consecutive year.
So, what does it take to be happy? Even we Finns don't know it deeply enough.
That's why the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) launched Future Finland, a 100-year study that will follow an entire generation of children born in Finland between 2026 and 2029.
To succeed, the project needs an entire generation, around 200,000 families, to participate.
Creative idea: Expecting couples meet their future children
To recruit families for the study, we needed a hook that was something beyond traditional communication.
We asked: what if expecting parents could meet their future child right here, right now?
Tech solution: The first-in-the-world, biologically grounded AI system
For this purpose, the first-in-the-world, biologically grounded AI system was built. (See the AI pipeline in the press kit.)
This AI system is able to produce a vision of each expecting couple's future child who looks like them, sounds like them, knows them at heart, and is ready to have a values-based, real-time conversation.
Documentary film: The couples meet their future child for the first time
In Finland, there is one group of people who believe in the future exceptionally strongly: parents.
Inspired by this, THL created a touching documentary video for the research launch, featuring four couples expecting a child.
As a surprise finale, each couple was introduced to their future child and given the chance to have a real, interactive conversation.
In the end, the children invited the parents to join the study.
