When a brand or person looks for stock images of farmers in India, the underrepresentation of women farmers is starkly visible, even though women account for approximately 75% of full-time farming jobs in India.

This immense underrepresentation needs to be corrected. The perception put forth by the world online needs to be mended. That’s exactly what Welspun World plans to do with EqualStock.

They have started to correct this underrepresentation with EqualStock, an initiative where they flooded stock image libraries with images of women farmers. These images are shot by Welspun World and are freely available online.

By using appropriate tags and collaborating with journalists and brands, they are trying to push these images higher up the algorithm. This will eventually help correct the underrepresentation of women farmers online.
