BETTER has released their latest drop: Climaxxx a carbon-neutral vegan condom to “help you screw each other instead of the planet”. Launched with a sultry 30-second ad, the condoms are designed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of climate change by focusing on something most people care a lot about.

The Climaxxx ad sees a couple saved by a climate-conscious fairy who delivers a Climaxxx condom at the perfect time. As they’re about to get to it, she delivers a word of encouragement to viewers to “do it for earth” while highlighting the sustainable credentials of the condom alongside a heavy 80s-synth soundtrack.

Research from studies featured in places such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) shows extreme heat caused by climate change can reduce testosterone, sperm motility, interfere with menstruation, and ultimately lower libido. All of which Climaxxx tees up in a playful, snarky tone, and colorful brand design intended to raise the specter of your sex life coming to an end without smarter moves…in and out of the bedroom.

As with all BETTER products, Climaxxx contains a healthy, yet ironic, dose of eco-anxiety. That is by design, especially in the case of Climaxxx. Since it’s not just increasing global temperatures, but the mental health crisis caused by the existential threat of climate change that has been shown to lower intimacy levels, in other research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

"It’s not new news that our emotional state affects our ability to function. But what we found intriguing was the direct relationship between the mental stress caused by climate change and what that does to things in the bedroom,” says Elliot Glass, BETTER co-founder. ”Climaxxx attempts to diffuse some of that eco-anxiety through our brand of humor, while encouraging people to take positive action.”

With an estimated 10 billion standard-issue male latex condoms manufactured every year, most end up in landfills, according to The United Nations Population Fund. Or, just as bad, our oceans. Instead, Climaxxx is featured alongside other products, which are sustainably made and responsibly sourced, with proceeds of sales directed to the BETTER Climate Fund, a community-driven endowment that finances climate mitigation projects.

“Unless you tap into the immediate and very personal impacts of climate change, it’s gonna be challenging to move the needle on positive climate action via consumer behaviors when we need it most, which is right now," says Ben Becker, BETTER co-founder. “And there’s nothing quite so personal as your sex life. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be more sustainable between the sheets?”
