Landmarks And Natural Beauties In Rio De Janeiro Can Be “Heard”

Hear The View takes the concept of audio description to the landscape of one of the most beautiful cities in the world: Rio de Janeiro.
It describes natural beauties, historical buildings and iconic landmarks in rich detail to blind and visually impaired Brazilians through an immersive audio experience, available on all major streaming platforms. Rio de Janeiro is known across the globe as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And the VLT, Rio de Janeiro light rail transit system, is the best way to know some of the most important touristic attractions and landmarks, such as National Library, Municipal Theater, The Museum of Tomorrow. To democratize this transportation mode, Grupo CCR and Rio de Janeiro VLT launched “Hear the View”, a sensorial and inclusive experience, dedicated to blind and visually impaired residents and tourists, who move around in Rio de Janeiro. To develop the project, the stretches with most attractions of the VLT route were selected. Then, the physical aspect of the main landmarks seen in the way was described in rich detail, such as the architectural style, shape, number of windows, height, colors, details, and so on. Historical facts about the landmarks and the city were also included in the descriptions. Finally, sound effects were added to create an immersive audio description experience.
