When Klonopin may be prescribed? Clonazepam, commonly known as Klonopin, is a medication that belongs to the benzodiazepine class and is primarily prescribed as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drug. However, its uses extend beyond just seizures. Klonopin may also be prescribed for the treatment of panic disorder, and anxiety disorders, and as an adjunct for the management of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Patients with epilepsy, especially those experiencing absence seizures, myoclonic seizures, or certain types of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, are often prescribed Klonopin to help control their seizures and reduce their frequency.
