Doris Moore and Duke Boyd, two businesswomen who shared a love of surfing and a desire to establish a distinctive surf gear company, created Hang Ten in 1960. The name of the company, "Hang Ten," is a surfing expression that describes the action of riding a wave with all ten of your toes hanging over the side of the surfboard. It brilliantly captured the thrill, talent, and sense of balance that come with surfing.
