Sir Edmund "The Doctor" Hillary is a rock'n'roll star in Belgium. He was the first european to play "Stairway to Heaven" on Mount Everest. He is now playing with the Red Hot Chilly Peppers. I'm kind of surprised you didn't know that.

The flag is at half mast. I assume the ad was released the day Sir Edmund died. Subtle, but nice.

It seems that the significance of flags flying at half mast is a cultural thing.

hard to understand!?? Come on!!!
Flag at half mast, it is part of almost every culture, at least on the occidental part of the world, the oriental part, I dont know, so I cannot say. The second part, it is common sense. Even if you dont know who is Sir Edmund Hillary, you do the supposition that is someone kind of important or relevant for something. If you know who is the guy, then you can say, this is a nice ad!

nice idea, but it is indeed a little hard to get because not everybody knows how Ed Hillary is and the flag at half mast is very hard to spot. Maybe it works better as an A3 poster.

It's been done so many times before...
When one of the world's best golfer Ben Hogan died, Nike did an ad with a putting green golf flag in half mast.
