Very creative but not instantly understandable in the context it's being presented. The Maasai tribe from Tanzania (where I am from) wear tires for shoes + run farther than lions, but it's a FAIL since most people won't make that connection instantly by just seeing this image.

By the way, this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Taking what looks like a poor African man with tires for shoes is not good advertising. This is sad.

3 yrs late on joining discussion. To me the lions in their statement may refer to cars that have cat names, like jaguar or dodge "hellcat"
which are surrounded by horsepower and speed. These type cars perform well on the strip but wont take you far in
the outback. The ad appeal to people who like to off road or are in areas that a normal vehicle isn't that useful. Why
would they use someone from the Maasai tribe? beats me... I thought in track and field the people from Kenya
always run and win the long distance races. So in other words putting tire treads on the feet of an African,
speaks to Land Rover going into terrain other vehicles can't...just my opinion, though.

Can't believe you all missed the concept. The treads of the shoe are showing the Land Lover front grille/mesh. Then you combine that with the distance that the Massai tribesmen walk grazing their cattle. They don't actually wear tire sandals because they're poor, it's their tradition. The tribe is one of the richest in East Africa and most of them don't even wear pants :).
