I'm not sure you understand the purpose of a "comments" section.

there's a world of difference between constructive criticism, or at the very least polite criticism, and the assholey one-word dismissive barbs people toss around this site.

"terrible". hmmmm. any reason why? a little more context might help the creator. and, yes, helping the creator isn't what most people come to this site for--I'm assuming it's to look at great work--but would you really talk that way in the flesh to people you work with? if the answer's no, then don't be a douchebag online. if the answer's yes, then man the f*ck up and at least register an account so we can see who you are.

BTW, i didn't make this ad. thought it was an interesting execution but similar to a fighting food ad i saw in archive sometime last year. don't remember the product, but there was an awesome boxer chicken standing on a plate.

Well put... I would also like to say a few things to "one word commentators" who tend to think writing "terrible! Crap! Done!" with exclamations is actually criticism.

In my opinion none of you have an actual work anywhere because if you ever had, then you'd know it takes effort and many stages of process... I come across many ads everyday here and other advertising blogs. Some are brilliant, some are not... But one thing is certain, everybody is trying to do their best in the environment they live. And they put their ad here (which takes a lot of courage), waiting for something to hear that can actually help them to take their ideas and work to a further point. Throwing eggs or rotten tomatoes don't help, it only helps YOU to feel good about yourselves. Oh yeah! you guys are anonymous GODS... But, you know what, behaving like this is done to death! And crappy!

Okay, I'm not a creative God by any means (I'm noot even a creative semi-deity) but I'll gladly say this advert is terrible and list the reasons why:

1. EVERYBODY knows that junk food is unhealthy, therefore the visual message is redundant.
2. 'Eat more healthily' is the written message, and there are a billion ways to do this... as this is not a public service announcement, why should I choose to eat at this place?
3. Any product advertising food should, preferably, be appetizing. This doesn't exactly leave me smacking my lips in desperate search for a menu.
4. Personifying a hotdog and having it wear boxing gloves is NOT an inspired idea.

On the plus side:

1. It's well art directed.
2. It would stop me flicking through a magazine.

did you ever read my post? it was for one word commentators... explaining why or how the ad doesn't work for you can be considered as constructive approach. so no need to take offense of it.

Yes, I read your post, and I agree with you. People shouldn't just write 'shit', 'done', 'terrible' or use any subjective, one-word critique without explaining their reasoning. I didn't take offense to your post at all, on the contrary, more people should think like you. But as nobody was else was forthcoming with more detailed criticisms (something I figured you were asking for in your post) I thought I'd be the first. My apologies for any misunderstanding.

i totally agree

I agree with you on some points, but we must remember 1 important thing, the spychosocial behavior of the country this add is from and to. In other words, I do like the way it portrays junk food as extremely unhealthy, because of the diets here on Mexico, people tend to repond to strong images and fear.

Mexico has a very very limited green market, it's considered a comodity here, and so the company needs this impact to attract this specific market. Thats why I like the concept (remember normal Mexican diets are grilled food with tortillas, beef and porc tacos and such)

What I really don't like is the Hot-Dog, maybe something more representive that could help the condumer remember the add better. hot dogs....NOT.

I promise getting a user tomorrow, and don't start a new single word coment/tripple !!! trend.

i agree with you, who the hell does he think he is giving such a "terrible" comment. this kind of people makes my blood boils as if what they saw was the most hideous idea ever. common "terrible" guy, admit it, the execution alone is great not to mention how it will communicate with the target audience. show us your work "terrible" guy, you can rely on our comment that it will be a very constructive one and my grandma is the first woman on the moon.

A lot of hard work went into the production. Maybe the concept isn't the most creative, but the point comes across simply.

Really? The point that junk food is bad for your body comes across immediately to me.

The concept is okay. Not exactly groundbreaking, but gets the job done. The art direction, on the other hand, is superb. I can't imagine a customer browsing a magazine and not stopping at this ad.

And this is coming from someone who would never be a regular at a healthy food restaurant, heh.

Odd, I see this ad as obvious. They could have taken a different route to advertise a restaurant, sure, but this is a viable route, too.

It looks like a worm from one angle and the boxing gloves look like they're floating next to the hot dog. And that makes it seem like the boxing gloves may actually be gearing up to box the hot dog away.(Like digest it in a nasty way:P)

Not seing a "done before" comment after 15 comments it's a good compliment for the creatives. Moreover the art direction looks great.

I remember Slim Jim doing something similar on the late 90th´s, early 2000th´s, where Slim Jim fights on the stomach.

Anyway, similar idea, not the same resource.

This work won a Golden circle award on Mexico on 2006.

DEAR MISTER NASTYJESTER, SINCE YOU ALWAYS CRITISIZE THE WORK OF OTHERS, WHY NOT GIVE US A LINK TO SEE SOME OF YOUR AWARD WINNING WORK? AT LEAST US UNCREATIVE PEOPLE WILL LEARN SOMETHING FROM IT.

Why don't you start by leaving your name, company, job title, or even what you think of the advert? Like I said in my post on this page, I don't claim to be a creative God or a prominent face amongst the Cannes finalists. But then I wonder how many people on this site actually are? Hey, at least I'm being honest with you.

As for criticising the work of others, I'm always honest with that too. If I think an advert is good, I'll say so. If I think it's terrible, I'll also explain WHY I think it's terrible.

But forgive me mate, honestly, my bad... I thought this was a comment board.

One of the worst campaigns in the last 3 months BECAUSE:

It's SILLY to put a SODA sticking a STRAW into an HUMAN ORGAN. It's DIGUSTING!
NO CLIENT WOULD EVER APROVE IT, since he's selling FOOD.
This Ad is disgusting, that's why.

Point taken?

Guest
StarlaY's picture

C'mon, you can't be serious... Are you even in advertising??
sticking a soda straw into a human organ is disgusting, therefore the ad is terrible? Bohoo... Haven't you seen more disgusting but brilliant ads... including blood, vomit and hardcore skin cuts? even in the food and beverage industry. which century do you live in?

(btw I'm not one of the creatives of the ad... I just think critics had to be over some intelligence level in general)

Agreed. Even though this is a place to leave comments, I'd love to know why people leave unconstructive criticism in the form of "terrible" "done" etc. What are they getting out of this? Does it make them feel better about their work? Why is there so much hate in this industry? It all seems to point at bullying. And bullies we all know have some serious self-esteem issues. So before you attack someone elses work, go punch a pillow, listen to some christina aguilera, and hug a tree, then leave your comment.

And this is not my ad.
