The Australian Government is running “The Line”, an integrated campaign designed to promote respectful relationships among young people. Managed by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), the campaign includes a web site, theline.gov.au, Facebook page, print and radio advertising, and promotional events involving music and art.

My take on this is it's supposed to be boyscrawls and girlscrawls. The 'handwriting' has to be noticeably different, otherwise it's going to look as if it's only targeting females or males. I think the illustrator was right to use different types of line / nib / pen in showing the different types of line.
