This ad was terrible. I thought it was morbid and somewhat inappropriate for the Super Bowl. All of the commercials in the Super Bowl are very comical so this particular commercial stands out negatively. Many people are turned off by Nationwide after that commercial. There were many tweets that negatively attacked the commercial. The commercial was about protecting your child from dying and all the things your child will miss out on if they die early on in life. The commercial puts a damper on the mood of the Super Bowl event. People do not want to think about children dying while drinking, partying and celebrating with their friends and family. I think there could have been a better, more humorous commercial choice that Nationwide could have created. Super Bowl commercials are supposed to be memorable, which is what Nationwide did achieve, however, it had a very negative reaction with the audience.

An axe murderer of ads.

Brilliant! Not for the American audience or the Super Bowl.
I can see this working perfectly in the UK or any other country in Europe.

Such displaced hate. Not every superbowl ad needs a zany celeb, the ad struck a chord and is receiving a sh*t ton of publicity while being a major talking point. So by definition, the ad worked better than most last night.

While I think that it is a somewhat creative approach to setting themselves apart, I think Nationwide was not thinking straight on this one. First of all, I think that all of the activities that the kid is participating in are sort of random and don't really tie together at all. I do think the kid and the dog are very cute with that being said. I do not exactly see what type of insurance they would be targeting with the commercial. It certainly doesn’t portray the message in very good taste, especially for the Super Bowl. Being a company that has pretty heavy television commercial presence, I was expecting to see something better like many of the commercials Nationwide has aired in the past. If I were to provide a simple suggestion to better the commercial, I would recommend connecting it to the parents somehow by including them in it, and also make it a little lighter and less intense for the viewer in a celebratory setting like the Super Bowl.
