This ad for Geico is yet another hilarious hit by the Martin Agency. “Horror Movie” has the iconic surprise element, the twist in the story line, and the sensible narrator tying it all up together for the viewer. Classic Geico marketing of creating a fresh new ad with the same elements that are recognizable of the creative, fun Geico essence. The narrative’s setting is seasonally relevant which connects with the consumer on a personal level. The idea that this televised commercial is saying, hey this brand is alive knows what time of the year it is, is important and makes that personal penetration inside the viewers mind. The drama displayed by the actors is on cue. Perfect and essential for the buy in to the ad and for consumer engagement. The story line develops to speak on the viewer’s belief and feelings that in horror films, people make obvious poor decisions. Before delivering the Geico’s tag line, the narrative throws in the satirical villain looking on to the group of desperate people doing what desperate people do. This is funny and effective in retaining consumer attention right before delivering the notion of Geico as also an obvious choice. “You want to save 15% or more on car insurance, switch to Geico, Its what you do.” The campaign using “It’s what you do” uses comedy to deliver an entertaining message that fundamentally says, Savings= Geico of course. This ad is memorable, funny, quirky, its obviously Geico.
