JWT Atlanta’s "Affairs of the Flame" ad campaign for natural gas provider SCANA Energy is a first in many ways. The comedic, episodic soap opera is the first time SCANA Energy has ever had such arich, fully-integrated campaign. It’s also the first major campaign produced by the new JWT Atlanta. Under the new leadership of CCO Perry Fair and GCD Tim Wettstein, the creative team of Rob Bloom and Ryan Taylor brought to life the drama of natural gas renewal season in a funny and memorable way. Five broadcast spots will roll out over the next several months. Additional online episodes and other bonus content were also produced. The campaign features a cast of recognizable actors, most notably Grant Goodeve of the iconic TV show “Eight is Enough.” Directed by Ben Callner, who won the Young Director Award at Cannes in 2011. I think the clue is in the line "Five broadcast spots will roll out over the next several months."

There are two available on ; both look modelled on the old Dynasty/Dallas drama framework, and intentionally cheesy. I'm glad I'll not be subject to these on TV, they are already massively annoying, and I've only watched once. But great production values.

TV has decent production, but the soap opera idea is one that can be found in portfolio schools. Also read that the the GCD called out the prior creative of JWT in Atlanta in Adweek. What a douche.

“You've probably never heard anything exciting coming out of JWT Atlanta before we joined,” said Wettstein. “I know it sounds horrible…It wasn't the best creative.”

I use SCANA and have for many the service and the ease in bill paying...however....when I see the new ads I get nauseated and consider changing my service. All I can do is wait for them to go away , hopefully in a few months,
and mute the TV whenever they come on.
