Ticket from harassment

Sexual harassment is a "silent" problem of public transport in Tashkent. 60% of respondents in Tashkent witnessed harassment in public transport. But for a whole year only one case reported in the media and 0 criminal cases has been disclosed.

Most often, the victims themselves are ashamed to talk about it and do not know who they can confide in. The most unprotected people are teenagers.

Tashkent Transport Department launched a project - Ticket from harassment. New bus tickets with instructions of what to do and whom to contact in cases of harassment.

- We reprinted fare tickets for all buses in Tashkent. By placing instructions on tickets that in cases of harassment you need to contact a ticket seller.

- Trained ticket sellers how to respond and take action in situations of harassment and how to provide psychological first aid to a victim

- Also we prepared an educational video and sent it to all internal chatgroups of ticket sellers and drivers.

Society started talking about the issue for the firs time. The media stopped keeping quit the problem. Most importantly, all these prompted the Ministry of Transportation of Uzbekistan made a public statement and take actions. And at the end, Ministry of Justice published a new law that criminalizes harassment in public spaces.
