Picture this: your daily elevator ride transformed into a journey of indulgence with a premium coffee experience.

For staffers at the Condé Nast office in New York City, that fantasy will be a reality as Nespresso and their lead agency of record, nmbl, show how with the right design thinking, any space can be far more functional than meets the eye.

Today, Thursday, March 7th, they’re launching their latest collaboration, the Vertuo Pop Café at an elevator at One World Trade Center.

Inspired by Nespresso's smallest, most stylish machine, Pop, and developed as part of their campaign “There’s Always Room for Great Coffee,” the pop-up space is one of several appearing in small or unexpected locations, with the elevator experience kicking off a series of events taking place in cities nationwide.

“Nespresso’s Vertuo line is one of the world’s most advanced coffee systems, with Pop representing years of continued refinement. So, we built an experience inspired by the machine itself, designing a fully functioning café in the last place you’d expect to find one,” said James Rogala, ECD at nmbl. “We are so proud to partner with our creative clients at Nespresso to kick off these fun activations at the World Trade Center, demonstrating how Nespresso delivers the highest quality of coffee in the smallest of spaces.”

The design of the elevator café space was inspired by the Pop machine itself, including the pink color scheme and wall decor featuring reflective spheres based on the Vertuo capsules used to brew coffee. The space was developed with experiential partners Invisible North.

The campaign includes organic and paid social, as well as a partnership with Architectural Digest, which helped consult on the cafe’s design elements. In August, Nespresso and nmbl launched the first Vertuo Pop Café by transforming gondolas on the Santa Monica Pier ferris wheel into mini cafés, featuring trained baristas serving iced coffee.
