Description
How does a regional chain find their way around “goalkept” sponsorships to score during one of the biggest cultural moments in the world? They unveil their own soccer legend—one that taps into the raw, communal fandom that uniquely exists during the World Cup.
Brand legend Jack Box has lived many lives from rockstar to cowboy to boardroom disruptor. As Jack in the Box celebrates 75 years, the brand is documenting another layer of Jack’s lore with “The Spiciest Player”— an all-new campaign that takes us back to Jack’s days as a soccer legend in an era when spicy behavior on and off the pitch was simply part of the game.
Created in partnership with TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles, the campaign builds a cinematic world around a hot-headed persona that feels familiar to soccer fans thanks to carefully crafted ‘80s Easter eggs, classic on-field references, and even incredible hair. Yes, Jack came through with a collectible bobblehead and keychain to commemorate this era, too.
High-stakes competition, lifetime devotion and collective viewing experiences move fans to be their most uninhibited about their teams. Drawing inspiration from soccer icons like Maradona and Ronaldinho, a hero film positions Jack alongside legends who defined the beautiful game. Pairing notorious player swagger with the irreverent humor we now associate with classic Jack, the work creates a fan-ready connection between Jack's spicy identity and the cultural moment.
"Jack as a spicy soccer legend is the missing chapter that nobody knew existed," says TBWA\Chiat\Day LA Group Creative Director Martin Insua. "Soccer fans never forget their idols, and we want Jack to become one of them. We analyzed hours of footage and carefully choreographed the most memorable and hilarious moves for him to pull off."
To bring this chapter to life for disparate audience segments within the World Cup window, Jack partnered with collaborators who seamlessly belong in soccer culture—not to just reach fans, but to join them.
Those familiar with Hot Ones know that spice can encourage people to feel a little bolder and more uninhibited, too— those who bravely take the challenge don't hold back from sweating, swearing, or pushing their taste buds to the next level when the heat is on. Fittingly, in collaboration with First We Feast, Jack harnessed the platform’s power to debut the Hot Ones Munchie Meal in a 'Hot Ones' episode featuring J. Balvin.
With The Hundreds, a SoCal streetwear brand that shares Jack's irreverent DNA, Jack is releasing limited-edition home (purple pinstripe) and away (white pinstripe) jerseys available for purchase while supplies last.
In addition to film and social programmatic assets, Jack is deploying LED screen trucks near stadiums, running dynamic creative from "The Spiciest Player" film to meet fans in real-time match moments.
Martin Insua, Group Creative Director: "The Spiciest Player is a different kind of throwback. It's an untold chapter that not only builds on Jack's lore and cult of personality but serves as the inspiration behind his menu—connecting the food to current culture, just like Jack's most classic spots have done."
Created in partnership with Jack in the Box’s AOR, TBWA\Chiat\Day LA, the hero film is premiering alongside 360 touchpoints including media buys on Telemundo, contextual placements across social, YouTube, OOH, and programmatic targeting during the ‘26 World Cup window.
