Description
Sapporo bought the San Francisco staple Anchor Brewing Co. in 2017 for $85 million. Anchor’s flagship ‘Anchor Steam’ is arguably the most widespread example of a California Common.
One of Black Pond's early recipes is an homage to that style of beer, they call it ‘Connecticut Uncommon’. When they heard that Sapporo has decided to close the 127-year old brewery, they knew they had to dedicate the next batch of Connecticut Uncommon to the Anchor SF Co-Op. They’re the group of Anchor brewers, production workers, managers, and bartenders who are working to buy the brewery back from Sapporo and continue its 127 years of tradition.
The new cans feature the Black Pond mascot Mr. Kitty overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. The Connecticut ad agency Decker helped promote the beer with social posts and posters.
Black Pond is donating a portion of the proceeds of this run to the Anchor SF Co-Op’s GoFundMe, where almost 2,000 people have donated $110k to the cause already. If you can, we hope you donate as well. If they can pull it off, it would be a big win for the independent brewing community.
